Beard Wash

Almost every client washes their beard with whatever is already in the shower. That is the problem beard wash solves, and it is an easy sale to explain at the chair because the client can feel the difference within a week.

Why not shampoo or shower gel

Shower gel and most shampoos are built around sulphates, which are designed to strip oil from a scalp that produces plenty of it. The skin under a beard does not. Used daily on facial hair, a sulphate wash removes the little sebum there is, and the result is the dry, itchy, flaking beard that the client then tries to fix with more beard oil — treating the symptom while continuing to cause it. A beard wash cleans the hair and the skin without stripping them, so the oil applied afterwards has something to work with.

How often

Two or three times a week for most clients, not daily. A beard collects product, food and city grime and does need washing — but daily washing of any kind is what dries facial hair out. Wash, towel-dry, then oil while the beard is still damp: that sequence is the whole beard care routine, and it is worth teaching clients because it sells all three products at once.
