Beard Oil

Beard oil is the product most barbershops sell first, because it is the one clients ask about at the chair. It is a leave-in conditioning oil for the beard and the skin underneath — not a styling product, and not a fragrance.

What it actually does

Coarse facial hair sits on skin that produces far less sebum than the scalp, which is why beards feel dry, look dull and itch in the first weeks of growth. A beard oil replaces what the skin does not supply: it softens the hair so a comb passes through it, reduces the flaking under the beard that clients read as dandruff, and leaves a low sheen rather than a shine. It does not make a beard grow faster, and any product that claims it does is selling something else.

How much and how often

Once a day on a towel-dry beard is enough for most clients. Three to four drops for a short beard, six to eight for a full one — warmed between the palms and worked in from the skin outwards, not brushed onto the surface. Used correctly a 30 ml bottle lasts a client roughly two months, which is the reorder rhythm you can plan a shelf around.
